As a young man in high school, I was lucky enough to get a job in a carpentry shop in town. I wanted to learn more, so I took woodworking in high school. My fantastic teacher was always on cue to tell me what I was doing wrong. I think he relished that I was getting paid to build furniture yet still had a ton to learn. After school, I went off into the military, putting my woodworking aside until I retired.
In 2017 my family and I found our dream home with a piece of land nestled inside the Uwharrie National Forest. Perhaps my dream home because this was the first time in over 20 years we could plant our roots. The first time I obtained something I dreamed of as a kid: owning land. Soon after, I worked the land to build several bridges to access different areas and enjoy the property.
In 2021, I decided to get back into fine woodworking.
Every tree is a one-of-a-kind. Never to be reproduced again. There are millions of oak, walnut, and maple trees, but it's what is on the inside. The grain pattern is one-of-one.
Have you seen a tree that you thought was ugly? Perhaps it's just me... But that ugly tree can turn out to be one of the most magnificent pieces of furniture. That is what I strive to do. I do not necessarily go out searching for ugly trees on my property, but bring out the beauty of each piece of hand-selected lumber.
My passion is to create a functional piece of art. One that will never be recreated again because every piece is unique...a thumbprint.
